Position Title: Part-Time Pipe Stress Engineer
Reports to: Piping Department Manager
Position Status: Permanent – Part-Time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Location: Pasadena, TX / Remote (Hybrid Schedule)
Work Schedule: On an as needed basis. Schedule is flexible as long as deadlines are met. Specific working hours can be arranged in coordination with the hiring manager.
Purpose: The Part Time Pipe Stress Engineer role is a working lead. The main responsibilities for this position are reviewing and checking piping engineering deliverables developed by less experienced Pipe Stress Engineers.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (minimum)
  • 8+ years of applicable experience in refinery, petrochemical, and/or EPC industries.
  • Texas PE License preferred, with ability to acquire registration in various states.
  • Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (including API 610, API 650, API 660, API 661, ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC, etc.)
  • Proficient in CAESAR II, NozzlePro.
  • Proficient with using Bluebeam, Navisworks and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to accurately estimate all piping engineering tasks on a project.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be capable of interacting with other engineering disciplines, construction project managers, and clients.
  • Fully proficient in project execution and mechanical engineering work processes from FEED and detailed design through materials management, construction and pre-commissioning.
  • Ability to work with others to achieve job goals

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Environment: Most work time is spent in an office or home office environment

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on pipe stress and pipe support design, including ASME and other relevant codes and practices
  • Reviewing and checking piping flexibility and stress reports with CEASAR II Software.
  • Prepare calculations to address issues such as two-phase flow, water hammer, cyclic service, differential settlement, wind, seismic, PSV thrust force, etc.
  • Perform FEA evaluation of stresses at nozzles, or for determining user calculated SIFs, using NozzlePro.
  • Identify critical lines requiring pipe stress analysis, review line list to ensure adequate level of criticality is defined make sound engineering judgments on existing pipe that interacts with project scope.
  • Responsible for completing project specific objectives on schedule and on budget.
  • Provide engineering support by answering technical questions and requests.
  • Ensure every design maintains the highest level of quality, and pipe stress analysis results and requirements are incorporated.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Associate Engineers in the department.
  • Work in a fast paced, multi-project environment and meet conflicting project schedules.
  • Work within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
