Reporting to the Director, Access Programs, the incumbent develops and delivers Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) courses, both credit (Academic and Career Entrance) and non-credit. ACP is an upgrading program funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development through the Employment Ontario Literacy and Basic Skills envelope. ACP is supports individuals who need secondary-level skills and/or credentials to be successful in post-secondary, employment and apprenticeship. This role will deliver Communications classes in a hybrid format, with in-person classes taking place in Newmarket. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Delivers courses in the Academic and Career Preparation program
o LABS 5000 – Newmarket (hybrid section, mornings six hours per week)
o AACE 1000 - Newmarket (hybrid section on Tuesday/Thursday mornings, six hours per week)
- Creates and maintains a positive learning environment, both remotely and in person
- Develops and delivers appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives
- Incorporates a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
- Evaluates student progress / achievement
- Participates in program and college activities as required
- Participates in program revisions and renewal activities as required
- Creates and maintains a positive learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successfully completed a minimum three-year degree in English, Communications or related field
- Bachelor of Education or Masters degree in a math or related field preferred
- Intermediate/senior qualifications and teaching English at the secondary level are assets
- Experience teaching adults in a professional environment
- Experience embracing change and leading innovation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to life-long learning
- Computer literacy: MS Office along with a high comfort level with learning new software such as student learning management systems and various teaching delivery applications
- Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
- Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, Ontario Adult Learning Curriculum Framework and student success strategies
- Teaching and Training certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
- Experience teaching adults remotely is an asset
