Description:
SUMMARY
The Store Guide / Sales Associate assists customers with the selection of merchandise by providing friendly, knowledgeable service. The Sales Associate may be required to work in multiple areas of the store, but will be an expert in at least one area. He or she epitomizes what Breathe Outdoors stands for by providing the best service possible. The Sales Associates at Breathe Outdoors have a passion and enthusiasm for helping people enjoy the outdoors.

Responsibilities:
JOB DUTIES
Customer Care
- Greets customers and identifies their needs
- Demonstrates, fits, or measures merchandise for customers
- Advises customers on how to care for and use products
- Stocks shelves and creates displays when necessary
- Remains current on sales promotions, policies regarding payment, and exchanges procedures
- Answers phones, assists customers over the phone and directs calls appropriately
Sales
- Strives to achieve established sales goals
Theft Prevention
- Monitors customers in an effort to prevent theft
- Keeps abreast of store security practices
Teamwork
- Collaborates as an integral member of the team to contribute toward the success of the organization
GENERAL DUTIES REQUIRED:
- Standing and walking - up to 8 hours at a time when interacting with customers to provide service
- Lifting and carrying merchandise or store tools – weight of items will vary from light to heavy (up to 75 lbs.)
- Lifting items above the shoulder
- Lifting from the floor to the shoulder
- Lifting from the floor to the waist
- Climbing up and down a ladder or stairs while carrying merchandise
- Walking while carrying items to customers in the store
- Pushing or pulling carts filled with products when necessary
- Twisting, turning or reaching for products or items above the shoulder level
Footwear Department – We sell sandals, shoes, runners, hiking boots and supplementary footwear supplies. Working in the footwear department requires climbing, bending, stretching, reaching, twisting, and/or squatting to retrieve or return footwear products, and to organize the footwear in the stockroom.
- For example:
- Squatting or bending down to assist customers with lacing or sizing their footwear
- Reaching to select shoes displayed on the walls for customers
- Locating, bending, or reaching to pull shoe boxes for customers wanting to try on shoes
- Moving or climbing up and down a large cumbersome ladder in the restrictive stockroom area to retrieve or return footwear products
Hard Goods Department – We sell kayaks, inflatable boats, canoes, tents, back packs, and camping gear. Working in the hard goods department requires bending, squatting, reaching, twisting, and lifting products that may weigh up to 75 lbs. and are bulky in size.
- For example:
- Squatting and bending down to assist customers with products on lower shelves or locked in display cases
- Squatting, bending, and reaching repetitively to re-stock shelves or pegs on display racks with products
- Using hand dexterity to remove or replace sales stickers on products with the tagging gun
- Climbing, lifting, and carrying heavy bulky boxes of expedition packs weighing up to 50 lbs. to the mezzanine floor and stocking items on display bars
- Reaching and lifting products, which may be heavy and bulky, from above the head
- Lifting and carrying heavy and bulky recreational products with co-workers to customer vehicles and assisting them in strapping the items down on the roof of the vehicle or on the back of their trucks
Apparel Department – We sell all clothing related items (pants, jacket, dresses, sweaters, fitness wear). Working in the apparel department requires bending, squatting, reaching, twisting, and carrying products for customers that may weigh up to 10 lbs. It may be necessary to carry multiple items at one time.
- For example:
- Squatting and reaching for products, using a reach bar to bring down apparel on display wall for customers to try on
- Lifting and carrying multiple garments for the customer to the change room or cashier desk
- Retrieving and replenishing products from a crowded stock room
- Reaching, squatting and bending to organize and tidy the displays on the sales floor
