Description:

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Nabu Casa is looking for an experienced partnership manager to work on Home Assistant and other projects of the Open Home Foundation. Home Assistant is the biggest open-source smart home platform in the world, with over a million users worldwide powering their households with it. To provide these users with the best possible experience, we have to build relationships with major organizations operating in the smart home industry—or outside of it. We are looking for someone who can develop and manage these strategic partnerships.
Your responsibilities will cover all forms of commercial and non-commercial partnerships with companies and non-profits alike, even extending to standards alliances or the public sector. An example of a current commercial partnership you would be responsible for is the ‘Works With Home Assistant’ partner program. This program makes it easier for users to find products that will give them the best Home Assistant experience, as devices that have been tested and approved can be identified by a ‘Works With Home Assistant’ badge.
As partnership manager, you will manage relationships with our existing partners and be the central contact for incoming requests from potential partners. You will also be responsible for reaching out to key companies in the smart home industry to build relationships with them.

ABOUT US

Nabu Casa (https://www.nabucasa.com/) is best known as the organization driving the development of Home Assistant (https://www.home-assistant.io/), the world’s largest free and open-source smart home platform. More than one million households benefit from its home automation capabilities. Powered by a worldwide community of open-source developers, GitHub ranked it the second most active open-source project in the world in 2023.
We were initially founded to ensure that the development of Home Assistant would remain sustainable as it kept growing, but over time, it has grown to support more Open Home initiatives. In 2024, the Open Home Foundation (https://www.openhomefoundation.org/) was formed to protect these open-source projects and ensure they thrive into the future. Nabu Casa is a commercial partner of the Foundation, and our principles are aligned with a joint commitment to privacy, choice, and sustainability in the smart home. These are the values that we put at the heart of every decision we make. It’s woven into our architecture, licensing, community, and everything else.
Nabu Casa is profitable, has no external investors, and our only funding comes from people subscribing to Home Assistant Cloud and buying Home Assistant hardware. That means the only stakeholders we have to concern ourselves with are our employees and our users. We now employ more than 30 contributors from all over the world to make sure they have the financial freedom to focus on Home Assistant and other open-source projects that help drive the Open Home vision.

Other Open Home Foundation projects and collaborations supported by Nabu Casa include:

  • Open hardware tools (e.g., ESPHome (https://esphome.io/), ESP Web Tools (https://esphome.github.io/esp-web-tools/))
  • Open standards (e.g., Python Matter Server (https://github.com/home-assistant-libs/python-matter-server), Z-Wave JS (https://github.com/zwave-js), ZigPy (https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy), BTHome (https://bthome.io/), Improv Wi-Fi (https://www.improv-wifi.com/))
  • Open voice (e.g., Rhasspy (https://github.com/rhasspy/rhasspy), Wyoming Protocol (https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/wyoming/), Piper (https://github.com/rhasspy/piper))

Responsibilities:

  • Build collaborative relationships with partners to achieve mutual goals.
  • Act as a central point of contact for (potential) partners.
  • Create partnership proposals and strategies to approach potential partners.
  • Identify new potential partnership opportunities and act on them, through inbound leads follow-up and outbound cold outreach.
  • Assess potential partners’ alignment with our organizational goals and values.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing partners.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between partners.
  • Manage the operational partnership process, including finalizing agreements and contracts, and ensuring agreed terms and conditions are upheld throughout the relationship.
