Description:

PASTORAL ASSISTANT

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton, established in 1856, is the second largest diocese in English speaking Canada and serves the needs of more than 626,000 Roman Catholics, throughout Southwestern Ontario. St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Kitchener is looking for a full-time (35 hours/week) Pastoral Assistant. Reporting to the Parish Priest, this position offers a competitive rate of pay and benefits package.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • College/University Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or certificate with 3 - 5 years of experience (an asset but not mandatory).
  • Practicing Catholic, knowledgeable about Catholic teaching.
  • Experience in pastoral leadership is an asset but not mandatory.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with the Parish Team, volunteers and Parish community.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and trust.
  • Understanding of issues relevant to the marginalized in our society.
  • Comfortable praying with and for others, including those of other faiths.

SKILLS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize to meet weekly deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms

Responsibilities:

  • Provide confidential management support to the Pastoral team of Pastor, priest in residence, Administrative Assistant and Music Director.
  • Assist the Parish Priest in conducting worship services; provide spiritual guidance to church members; plan and arrange educational, social, and recreational programs for congregation.
  • Assist Pastoral Team and visiting clergy with liturgical support as required (special services, funerals, etc.)
  • Prepares candidates and their families for reception of Sacraments of Initiation.
  • Be a pastoral presence in St. Paul’s School.
  • Coordinate parish ministers and volunteers.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Pastor and compliment the employees skill set.
