Description:

SUMMARY:

Protecting our intellectual property is at the core of AstraZeneca’s future success. As a Patent Coordinator, you will be taking on a role that offers a variety of interesting, important and demanding work. You will be providing essential and specialized support relating to the filing, procurement, and maintenance of patent applications and patents throughout all phases of US, European and international patent prosecution. You will be part of a collaborative, close-knit team that takes enormous pride in its meticulous attention to detail and expertise in patent procurement. The work will require daily interaction with patent attorneys, inventors and third parties.

TYPICAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Patent Application Support: Assisting in the preparation and filing of multiple new patent applications, including US, Europe (EP), and PCT applications

  • Global Coordination: assist in the preparation and filing of all prosecution-related documents within the USPTO, EPO and patent offices globally. Managing national stage filings and formality documents with foreign counsel.

  • Deadline Management: Proactively monitoring and meeting docketed deadlines, collaborating with our docketing team to ensure our records are impeccably maintained.

  • Cross-Functional Interaction: Engaging daily with patent attorneys, inventors, and third parties to drive our IP objectives forward.

  • Project Participation: Contributing to special projects and initiatives that enhance our IP processes and systems.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working with US, EP and foreign patent prosecution and formalities in private practice, and/or an in-house IP department.
  • Familiarity with US, EP and foreign patent docketing.
  • Self-motivated, with proven organisational skills and ability to manage multiple, high-priority tasks and deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a diverse and international team of attorneys, staff, and inventors.
  • Proficiency with USPTO, EPO and/or ePCT online filing; proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and MS Excel.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • An undergraduate degree and/or a recognised qualification in Patent Administration.
  • Paralegal experience is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of CPA Memotech, Anaqua or similar IP management system.
  • Knowledge of Worksite/iManage or similar document management system
