Description:

Overview
Pragmatic is seeking a European Patent Attorney to join our growing Patents and Trade Marks Team in Sedgefield! This is a new position for someone with a background in the physical sciences or engineering.
The candidate will work with our Engineers and Scientists to recognise, develop and document their ideas. They will also be responsible for the drafting and prosecution of a portion of Pragmatics Patent portfolio and advise on any other patent or IP related matters.

Responsibilities

  • To engage with key stakeholders across the business, and advise business areas on key aspects and strategies for IP protection.
  • To assist with the IP disclosure procedure, and work collaboratively with Pragmatic’s innovators to review IP disclosures and advise on best avenue for IP protection.
  • To take ownership for part of Pragmatic’s Patent portfolio, and the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications globally.
  • To engage with outside counsel to facilitate patent drafting, filing and prosecution.
  • To support with education and training of Pragmatic’s people in IP matters.
  • To keep up-to-date with changes in applicable laws, regulations, and codes of practice.
  • To undertake training and career development activities as are agreed with line-manager.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Qualified as a patent attorney alongside a degree in physical science or engineering subject.
  • Previous experience handling electronics and/or semiconductor patent portfolios.
  • Great teammate capable of working with colleagues across the business having a variety of backgrounds
  • Strong oral and written communication - capable of communicating IP matters in an accessible way to cross sector audiences in a clear and concise manner.
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, high volume environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop own professional expertise and technical knowledge.

Desirable

  • Chartered Patent Attorney (CPA)
  • At least 3 years’ experience handling electronics patent portfolios
  • Experience of patent prosecution in the field of semiconductor chips.
