Description:

Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS) is a joint venture between Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust delivering pathology services to both acute and primary care patients across the network area. Currently the team is split across 4 sites, Frimley Park, Wexham Park, East Surrey and the Royal Berkshire Hospital and you may be asked to work at any of the sites so that services can be maintained.
The Pathology IT department is a highly professional and dedicated team with a strong emphasis on ongoing training and career development.
The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate an understanding of IT System infrastructure and cyber security with good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team or to join the project teams involved in the design, integration and implementation of new systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, as dealing with a wide range of clinical staff and associated professionals is a significant aspect of this role.
The successful candidate will be expected to support the Pathology IT Senior team and other colleagues as we move forward in the growth of BSPS.
The post-holder will
Works to achieve agreed objectives and has freedom to do this in own way, working within broad professional policies; advises without reference to manager. Acts as a lead specialist in own area.
Work closely with the Pathology IT Manager and other members of the Pathology IT team across all sites where pathology is provided by Berkshire and Surrey Pathology Services (BSPS).
Control, manage, and maintain the Microsoft Defender Endpoint (MDE) or equivalent used for cyber security.
Provide support for the continuing operation of the BSPS IT Infrastructure including all systems and servers to maintain a high level of security, integrity and availability ensuring BAU is maintained.

Providing support to service calls and requests for the BSPS Service Desk.

  • Be part of a team providing Pathology IT cover out of hours, at weekends and during Bank Holidays

Taking day to day responsibility for the provision of system support to ensure high availability of BSPS systems.

  • Be prepared to work across any of the BSPS sites as required.

Responsibilities:

Core Function
To provide specialist support for BSPS IT System infrastructure software and hardware problems. This will involve communicating technical issues to non-technical staff and owning the problem through to satisfactory resolution for the user.
The post holder will, as part of a team, be responsible for providing a high degree of customer service for all support queries and adhere to all service management principles.
Refer incidents to or take guidance from the Server Manager where appropriate given the severity or technical complexity of the incident.
To take a “hands-on” role in resolving issues and troubleshooting.
To be a member of the Pathology IT on-call team on a rota basis for support outside of normal working hours, and to assist colleagues who are on call if required.
To work out of hours during system upgrades or during major system failures if required.
To work flexibly to meet user’s requirements.
To undertake technical system administration and maintenance tasks on a daily basis or frequency as required to ensure the ongoing and smooth running of IT systems and services.
To monitor the performance of the service and provide assistance in the preparation of reports for Trust management boards • To ensure that the service is compliant with NHS and local Trust IT standards.
To update the Trust IT Asset register for systems (hardware and software details) when equipment is installed, upgraded, moved or disposed of in line with Trust IT Policy.
To update system and service IT documentation as required.
Assist in the maintenance of a knowledge base of procedures and solutions to commonly reported faults.
To act on system security as directed by senior members of the team and implement them.
Financial Management
Responsible for the proper and safe use of IT equipment by users; responsible for expensive IT equipment and software / Installation, repair and maintenance of Digital Services equipment.
Communication and Working Relationships
Develop and maintain relationships with other technical teams within the Digital Services department, and peer organisations within the local health community, to ensure a consistent and co-ordinated service for the Trust and its business partners.
Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and ensure robust processes are established for support and supply contracts.
Policy and Procedures
Makes proposals on Digital Services systems, reports and training policies. E.g. The use of different equipment/software/web technology, reporting methods, training practices which have an impact on own and other areas.
To assist in planning and designing IT projects such as new systems • Assist the Server Manager to develop the IT Infrastructure to improve technical capability and capacity
To contribute to the development of adequate support arrangements for all designated systems. This may include a review of documentation, preparation of documentation, and/or contribution to the development of technical solutions and evaluation of new solutions.
To keep abreast of new technology and best practice in IT Infrastructure and to contribute towards the improvement and development of all standards, procedures and quality control mechanisms.
Staff Leadership and Management
Acts as a coach and mentor and technical escalation point in all areas where they are considered a subject matter expert, providing expert-level knowledge and peer-level review in respect of issue resolution, standards, design, best practice, delivering quality and reference target architectures.
Working in partnership with senior staff to advise on possible future directions and to operate in an advisory capacity to any proposals.
Post holder will support development and delivery of specialised training to end users across FHFT.
Championing and supporting End User Computing, Modern Desktop, & up-to-date cloud technologies
Operating in a technical advisory capacity, to carry out analysis on complex projects, and provide root cause analysis as required.
Provide and maintain an appropriate business level documentation repository for review and guidance by peers and IT Service desk for troubleshooting, assistance and supporting end users.
Educate teams and other IT staff as necessary in skills, policies or processes in adopting a continual service improvement approach.
