QUALIFICATIONS:
Three (3) years of clerical experience including at least two (2) years of admitting/patient intake experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
The position requires exquisite communication skills.
The ability to read, write, and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.
Highly effective oral and written communication skills are required to communicate with clinical, administrative and other personnel.
The ability to speak other languages is a plus.
Superior interpersonal skills are important in maintaining a sound public image in dealing with patients, families, and referring to physicians.
Must be computer-literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Must demonstrate a commitment to working with people with cancer.
Responsibilities:
The primary purpose of the Patient Access Representative position is to coordinate and process new patient referrals to ensure that every physician and patient enlisting the services of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey experiences a high level of satisfaction. Receives telephone requests for service, obtains demographic, insurance and other intake information. Enters relevant data into Cancer Institute of New Jersey information systems. Demonstrates competency in scheduling appointments with appropriate providers according to defined protocols. Participate in performance improvement activities in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of services provided. Position requires interaction and competency in providing care to patients in all age categories, from neonates through geriatrics and all populations, with an emphasis on patients with cancer.
