Patient Level Costing Accountant

The post holder will be instrumental in the development of and then periodic production of Patient Level Costing Information, providing robust financial information to the Head of Costing. This will be an important role in ensuring the Trust is producing accurate Patient Level Costing and annual National Cost Collection data.

This is a senior post within the Costing department and therefore the post holder will be expected, at times, to work on their own initiative providing high level support to the Head of Costing.

Assist in the regular production of internal patient level costing information for the Trust and in the annual production and submission of the National Cost Collection to NHS England. Provide full support to the Head of Costing in relation to this and share outputs with relevant parties.
Have lead responsibility for the accurate collation of all activity for all of the datasets required for the costing process, both for internal and external reporting. Upload activity into the relevant database tables and reconcile to source data values in a timely manner.
Take an active role in improving data quality. Be proactive in the resolution of any inconsistencies and incompleteness of data that may occur by using dashboard data quality reports and data validation reports held within the costing system. Investigate issues and take corrective action and reload datasets as necessary.

Take an active role in the planning of the National Cost Collection process to work within the national deadlines set by NHSE. Compile a clear plan of all tasks involved and consider the requirements and expectations of the other members of the costing team. Adjust the plan, as required, by monitoring performance against the plan and prioritise tasks to meet the requirements of the service and of the cost collection submission. Be proactive, and reactive, as appropriate, to issues that may be faced by the team in delivering its service.
Assisting the Head of Costing with the completion of the annual Education & Training Cost collection for NHS England as and when appropriate to the National Cost Collection Guidance.
Responsible for training end users (e.g. Finance colleagues, Clinicians and Operational Managers) in using the output tool for the Patient Level Costing System. This could relate to navigation of the system and guidance on setting new reports / layouts for analysis.
Responsible for providing and explaining outputs of the Patient Level Costing System to end users (e.g. Finance Teams) as and when required.
Responsible for providing exception analysis from the Patient Level Costing System to the Head of Costing. This could include comparative analysis and benchmarking analysis.
Attendance at internal and external costing meetings.
Identify and action routine and ad-hoc information requests from Finance Teams and end users as appropriate.
Respond to and resolve queries from finance teams and end users on information and output issues in liaison with the Head of Costing.
