Description:
The post holders primary responsibility will be to provide clinical expert coordination and leadership of work programmes to meet the recommendations of national, regional, and local maternity and neonatal safety improvement agendas and provide assurance to the Directorate Quadrumvirate, Leadership Team and Trust that compliance is being achieved. This includes monitoring and providing evidence of compliance and coordinating action plans for areas of improvement. However, the post holder will still be required to support general governance activity as part of the Directorate Governance team, as required. Support and provide guidance to all staff within maternity services in relation to patient safety and clinical governance and contribute to, and monitor effectiveness of, the W&Cs risk management strategy.
To attend the Trust complaints, litigation, incident and pals meeting, and when required deputise for the W&Cs Risk & Governance Manager at the trust Patient Safety Committee (PSC) as a midwifery expert. Working with the Clinical Director, Director of Midwifery, Head of Midwifery and Neonatal services, Womens and Childrens Risk and Governance manager, Obstetric Audit Lead and Trust Corporate Governance team/Trust Compliance lead to ensure audit projects are prioritised and undertaken in a timely manner. The post holder will have responsibility for co-ordinating and participation in audit projects relating to the NHSR Maternity Standards , Three year delivery plan and Ockenden report recommendations/IEAs. Lead and contribute to work streams that directly feed into compliance with the MIS Maternity safety actions/Three year delivery plan such as ATAIN, Perinatal Optimisation and BFI.
Work with the lead clinicians for clinical risk within maternity, Professional Midwifery Advocates, Midwifery matrons, Medical and Midwifery staff to identify clinical risk issues and implement changes in practice. Provide feedback on incidents and progress the implementation of recommendations from multidisciplinary meetings. Promote and maintain cohesive working relationships with obstetricians, neonatal team (medical and nursing) anaesthetists and other specialists. Work autonomously within guidelines and spheres of professional practice.
Support the implementation of recommendations from Government and professional bodies in relation to maternity care. Support the W&Cs Risk & Governance Manager to co-ordinate patient safety and clinical governance activities, deputising where required. *For a full comprehensive list of main responsibilities and duties, please kindly refer to job description and personal specification attached
