Required:

  • High School Diploma or Vocational High School Graduate or possession of an approved High School Equivalency
  • One-year experience in clerical or receptionist work

Responsibilities:

  • Greets patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Registers and,or checks in patients, verifying the two patient identifiers, patients name and medical record number in compliance with TJC, at every patient encounter,
  • Prepares and fully completes all necessary forms and documents, obtaining patient signatures as needed during the registration process,
  • Assists patients with utilizing MyChart to check in and access their healthcare information,
  • Ensures accurate reimbursement of all accounts by correctly identifying insurance carriers, plans and obtaining complete insurance information and scanning most current insurance card and identification into EPIC,
  • Contacts insurance companies to verify, obtain and update current benefit information, eligibility, and authorizations,
  • Responsible for updating each account with benefit information,
  • Effectively completes transactions regarding up-front collection of patient payment at the time of service
  • Assists patients with retrieving their medical records as needed
  • Follows HIPAA Compliance at all times
  • Promotes a positive and healthy workplace environment, maintaining professional relationships with all co-workers and interacts with other disciplines, departments, agencies and insurance companies in a professional manner
  • Maintains and updates professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on special committees
  • Assists with managing patient flow and oversees, maintains waiting room environment throughout the day, directing and assisting patient to appropriate department or area as needed
  • Answer a high volume of incoming calls promptly, transferring calls to staff as needed and forwarding information from patient to other staff members with follow up as needed
  • Utilize Epic chats, pools and other functionality, in addition to phone calls to expedite patient needs
  • Responsible for scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, in person and telehealth, with verification of patient demographic and insurance information prior to their appointments, including calling patients to cancel and reschedule as needed, ie,
  • Responsible for entering no shows and arriving patients in EPIC, reviewing voicemails and return calls within 24 hours,
  • Records daily office charges, hospital charges, receipts and total number of patients seen and is responsible for the follow up and completion of daily work ques assigned that are included in EPIC
  • Assists with verifying and, or entering the billing charges and indicators to the billing system as needed, with cross checking of spreadsheets and logs
  • Maintains and accesses clinic records and files according to HIPAA guidelines
  • Demonstrate competency in operating copy, scanning, office equipment, sorting and maintaining incoming and outgoing correspondence, while performing all clerical functions in compliance with departmental rules and regulations
  • Complies with unit and department scheduling guidelines and coverage needs of the department
  • Able to function independently with minimal direction from supervisor,
  • Performs other duties as assigned
