Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel. Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties. Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients. Adheres to universal infection control practices. Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees. Transports deceased to morgue.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Satisfactory communication skills

Preferred:

  • Prior transport experience

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Evening 3p 11:30p
  • With every other weekend and every other holiday

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Transports patients in a safe and efficient manner throughout the hospital under the direction of supervisory personnel.
  • Utilizes the automated transport system to perform duties.
  • Performs routine cleaning of equipment used to transport patients.
  • Adheres to universal infection control practices.
  • Practices excellent customer service skills with all patients, visitors and employees.
  • Transports deceased to morgue

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Advises nurse, nurse designee or technician when arrives on floor.
  • Introduces self to patient.
  • Transporter always checks the patient’s ID band for the two identifiers before transporting patient (Name and Date of Birth).
  • Assists the nurse or technician in transferring the patient from the bed to the transport equipment or vice versa.
  • Uses caution when rounding corners.
  • Ensures brakes are used when transferring from stretcher and/or wheelchair.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Maintains safety of patients.
  • Identifies appropriate situations to seek assistance from nursing staff and/or security.
  • Recognizes and reports patient discomfort, distress or emergency situations to the nurse or technician.
  • Always follow infection control and hand washing precaution before, during and after a transport
