PAYMENT POSTER QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 3-5 years’ experience in healthcare revenue cycle specifically working with payment posting
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to shift priorities, superior problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required
  • Experience working with various computer and data entry systems, including Microsoft Office applications, practice management systems, and other computer systems and database software
  • Must be a team player and can work effectively with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds in a fast-paced environment
  • Dependable; able to meet reliable attendance and punctuality standards for the role
  • High school diploma/GED

Responsibilities:

DUTIES AND DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE PAYMENT POSTER:

The Payment Posting Specialist reports to the RCM Payment Poster Supervisor. The Payment Posting Specialist is responsible for the daily completion of all cash and payment posting activities and tasks related to patient accounts for the organization - primarily, for all aspects of the collections and payment posting process.

PAYMENT POSTER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accurately and efficiently post and ensure completion of insurance payments received from insurance carriers, patients, collection agencies, and other sources to the appropriate accounts in the practice management system or HER.
  • Reconciling daily deposits and electronic funds transfers (EFT) with posted payments to ensure that everything balances.
  • Review and interpret explanation of benefits from insurance carriers to correctly post appropriate payment, adjustments, and denial codes.
  • Identify incomplete information needed to post remittance advice and take the necessary steps to resolve inquiries, questions, inconsistencies, or missing data.
  • Ensure electronic deposits match payment totals and payment batches match bank deposits.
  • Accurately move balances to patient responsibility and ensuring prompt patient billing.
  • Identify line-item denials for medical necessity, non-covered services, and prior authorization issues; communicate discrepancies in verification and authorization to appropriate management for resolution.
  • Spot and capture issues with front office collections, such as failing to collect deductibles or copayments, when processing insurance remittances; communicate these to the respective management team.
  • While processing write-offs and adjustments, investigate unusual contractual adjustments and communicate problematic trends.
  • Perform an audit at the close of each day to ensure all activities from the lock box and or bank are balanced.
  • Electronic posting reconciliations and conduct reviews of own entries to be proactive to any errors.
  • Ensure all pending and variance items are resolved within designated time frames.
  • Review collection accounts and send to in-house collections and then outside collections as per company policy.
