III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION - Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university with a minimum of 24 hours of accounting. Additional criteria as established by the School Board.
- EXPERIENCE – 1-2 years of related experience in payroll processing/software or related experience.
- SKILLS – Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to deal effectively with other employees and the general public.
- OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database and payroll software.

Responsibilities:
II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
The Payroll Accountant will oversee and supervise the payroll functions of the organization, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes and other deductions.
- Reviews employee payroll entered by Human Resources department to ensure compliance with employee contracts, School Board policies, and applicable wage and tax laws.
- Process payroll and maintains payroll records.
- Answers inquiries related to payroll activities.
- Prepares, maintains and distributes various payroll reports, including pay calendars and payroll processing deadlines.
- Assists employees with understanding and practicing School Board payroll policies and procedures.
- Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
- Receives, reviews, and complies with court orders involving garnishments.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including members of the general public, staff, the Louisiana Department of Educations, and external auditors. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to assure the confidentiality of employee financial records.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
- Performs other related services as required.
