A Payroll Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing the payroll process to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. Below is a typical job description:
Job Title: Payroll Accountant

Job Responsibilities:

  • Processing Payroll: Ensure accurate and timely processing of employee payroll, including salary, wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Payroll System Management: Maintain and update payroll systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Compliance: Ensure payroll processes comply with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as company policies.
  • Tax Calculations: Calculate and process federal, state, and local tax withholdings, including Social Security, Medicare, and other deductions.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit payroll reports, including tax filings, year-end reports, and other regulatory documentation.
  • Benefits Administration: Manage employee benefits, including deductions for health insurance, retirement plans, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Employee Inquiries: Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and benefits.
  • Audits and Reconciliations: Perform regular audits and reconciliations of payroll records to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  • Recordkeeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of employee payroll data for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure that employee information is up-to-date and that payroll runs smoothly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, QuickBooks, or similar systems).
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to handle confidential information.
