Description:

GFL Environmental is looking for a Payroll Analyst to join our team out of our Vaughan office! As a Payroll Analyst - Absence Management, you will play a key role in optimizing and managing absence plans across Canada and the US. With expertise in Workday configuration and a strong grasp of time-off policies, you’ll enhance our absence management processes, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience on Absence/time off plans
  • Experience in configuration, troubleshooting and analyzing technical issues related to Absence in Workday or similar systems
  • Knowledge in US PTO plans and experience in Quebec legislative requirements on payroll, vacation, sick entitlements are preferred
  • Strong interest and experience working with technology, Microsoft Excel required
  • Experience in union collective agreements is an asset
  • Knowledge on payroll processing requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Solid knowledge on paid and unpaid time off and absence plans, including various leave such as vacation, sick
  • Perform Workday configuration for accrued time-off and leave of absence plans
  • Set up and maintain time-off plans for union and non-union environment
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for the plan enhancements, process optimizations, and automation
  • Audit and correct discrepancies related to vacation entitlements and accruals
  • Provide Absence support to Canada & US divisions
  • Troubleshooting and provide solutions to any production issues
  • Support optimization of absence configurations to decrease the complexity of future administration
  • Develop and execute absence test plans to ensure new and existing plan modifications are accurate and reliable
  • Work closely with the payroll team to design, implement, and test Workday solutions related to Absence
  • Familiar with entitlements, accruals, eligibilities of various absence plans
  • Establish internal controls and audits to ensure compliance of related legislation, collective agreements and company policies
  • Assist in documentation of Absence process and management
  • Strong capability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and handle various projects simultaneously
  • Exhibit strong analytical and communication skills, collaborate with stakeholders, and provide clear guidance on absence-related matters
