Description:

The Avon Maitland District School Board is accepting applications for a full-time permanent 1.0 FTE Payroll & Benefits Supervisor position for the Human Resource Services department at the Education Centre in Seaforth, Ontario.
Reporting to the Payroll & Benefits Manger, the Payroll & Benefits Supervisor will be responsible for the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring accurate, efficient and timely payroll processing for all employee groups in accordance with relevant collective agreements and statutory requirements;
  • Provide direct supervision to the Payroll Service Representatives, including supervising each processing function, developing, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures, assigning daily responsibilities/re-establishing priorities, problem resolution, streamlining manual process and the completion of performance appraisals and goal-setting activities;
  • Work collaboratively with Human Resource Services to ensure required payroll information is received and processed according to the appropriate collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment;
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate remittance of statutory and non-statutory deductions;
  • Act as a resource regarding benefit issues and ensure premium deductions are accurate and processed as per the required deadlines;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of government legislation, related Acts and payroll regulations including but not limited to; CRA, Service Canada, ESA, WSIB and EHT;
  • Ensure deadlines for completion of annual reconciliations as required (i.e. T4s, EHT, public sector salary disclosure, SBCI reports, etc.);
  • Assist with annual payroll accruals, monthly account reconciliations, and journal entries;
  • Develop, implement and maintain procedures, records and payroll manuals;
  • Respond to staff and service providers in a timely manner with a focus on customer services;
  • Act as back-up to the Payroll Service Representatives as needed and provide assistance during peak periods;
  • Promote a positive, safe, healthy, respectful and inclusive workplace;
  • Other duties or projects as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting or a related field, or equivalent;
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive experience in a supervisory role in a payroll environment working with multiple union payrolls, pensions and benefits;
  • Active Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) member and working towards Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology and advanced computer applications including an integrated HR/Payroll system, Excel, Access, Word, etc.
  • Proven analytical skills, problem solving and planning skills with an ability to work independently while continually multi-tasking;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated integrity and credibility in dealing with confidential/sensitive information;

Compensation Details:
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, 12 months per year
Rate of Pay: $72,485 - $84,412 per Level 5 in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Non-Union, Management, Administrative and Supervisory Employees
Health & Dental Benefits: Extended and Supplementary Health, Paramedical Services, Dental, including Orthodontics, Out of Province/Country and Health Care Spending Account
Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)
