Description:

We are offering a short term contract employment opportunity for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist in JEMEZ PUEBLO, New Mexico. This role will require you to work closely with our team to effectively manage and oversee all payroll related activities. This is a crucial role within our organization as it ensures the accurate and timely payment of our team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Processing payroll in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws related to payroll.
  • Collaborating with HR and Finance to ensure correct payroll data.
  • Resolving employee inquiries regarding payroll issues or discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
  • Administering employee benefits and working closely with our benefits provider.
  • Keeping informed about changes in payroll and tax laws to ensure compliance.
  • Ensuring all payroll transactions are processed efficiently.
  • Collecting, calculating, and entering data in order to maintain and update payroll information.
  • Compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages and reporting on this.
  • Determining payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income, social security taxes, employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role in the HR department
  • Knowledge of payroll processes including payroll tax and benefits legislation
  • Familiarity with payroll software/ HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems)
  • Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with employees and resolve any payroll errors
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of relevant local, state, and federal laws and regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
