Amwaste is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll Clerk to join our company’s Human Resource’s team. Amwaste is growing quickly, and we are looking for a professional that can have an immediate positive impact on our team. The Payroll Clerk will be responsible for efficiently and accurately processing employee payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and providing excellent customer service to employees regarding payroll-related inquiries. The ideal candidate should have a strong aptitude for numbers, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. This position reports to the HR Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The five C’s: Character, Competency, Compassion, Competitiveness, and Credibility
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification or coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is a plus.
  • Proven work experience as a Payroll Clerk or in a similar role, demonstrating a strong understanding of payroll processing and applicable regulations.
  • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in using payroll software and computerized systems for data entry, calculation, and recordkeeping.
  • Familiarity with relevant payroll laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost integrity and discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate payroll-related information to employees.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Process and prepare payroll data for all employees in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring adherence to company policies, employment contracts, and legal requirements.
  • Verify and review timekeeping records, attendance sheets, and other relevant documents to ensure accurate calculation of employee hours, overtime, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Calculate and process adjustments, deductions, and bonuses based on employee information, such as tax withholdings, insurance premiums, retirement contributions, and other applicable factors.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and changes to compensation or benefits.
  • Generate payroll reports, summaries, and statements for management review and auditing purposes.
  • Address employee inquiries regarding payroll-related matters, including salary, tax deductions, and benefits, and resolve any discrepancies or issues promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as HR and Accounting, to ensure accurate and timely transfer of payroll data and resolve any interdepartmental discrepancies.
  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to payroll processing, tax withholding, and other payroll-related areas.
  • Assist in preparing and distributing payroll-related forms, such as W-2s, 1099s, and other tax-related documents as required.
  • Support the Payroll Manager in various tasks and projects as assigned.
