Key responsibilities:

  • Perform duties necessary for the accurate and timely processing and calculation of wages, maintenance of payroll records and distribution of payroll reports, timely bank deposits to employees and withheld monies to third parties.
  • Process multiple payrolls, fortnightly and monthly, through payroll system. Generate audit reports for all payrolls processed.
  • Assist in reconciliations of payroll related general ledger accounts as required by Finance. Prepare information submitted for changes to employee records and makes corrections in system.
  • Review, analyse and verify payroll reports and documents for accuracy and make necessary adjustments or corrections through established procedures.
  • Assist employees with all payroll issues. Analyse and respond to matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of payroll policies.
  • Manage payroll calendars for the fiscal year.
  • Receive and lodge all national and local government tax and payroll tax correspondence. Prepare and file a variety of state and federal taxes monthly and respond to outside agency requests. Manage payments to external agencies e.g. PRT State Revenue Offices. Assist with end of year filing with the Australian Taxation Office required as part of STP (Single Touch Payroll).
  • Compile payroll reports for both internal and external purposes.
  • Performing advanced technical work in a specialised area of payroll and making independent judgments within established limits.

This position has no direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices, regulations and procedures. Previous experience of Aurion payroll system is a definite advantage.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal payroll and related tax regulations, legislation and guidelines including garnishment orders, child support, levies and non-resident tax treaties.
  • Skill in evaluating and analysing technical payroll activities.
  • Skill in preparing detailed reports for the business and performing detailed computations as requested by Finance.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and persevere in order to achieve results and meet deadlines and maintain effective performance under pressure but know when to ask for assistance from appropriate individuals.
  • Be able to work independently under own direction and initiative in a time sensitive environment to prioritise and organise workload, multi-task, adapt quickly to change, and deliver under the pressure of deadlines.
  • Accurate and up to date knowledge of employment law in respect of superannuation processing and payroll best practice.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of payroll processing experience and any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Extensive experience working as a payroll professional within a busy and effective payroll / finance / HR department and excellent systems experience including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Intermediate level such as pivot tables and v look ups), Word and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated mathematical and analytical knowledge and the ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem.
