Description:

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Payroll Manager is responsible for all aspects of payroll administration. This role is critical in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and providing exceptional service to employees regarding earnings and deduction related inquiries, while consistently ensuring employment standards, tax compliances and best practices are met.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in payroll administration.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and state payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Strong familiarity with HRIS and payroll software (e.g., UKG Pro, ADP, Workday, or similar).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Payroll or HR certification (e.g., PCP or CPHR) is an asset.

Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration:

  • Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, including data entry, calculations, audits & reconciliations for both Canadian and US pay groups for semi-monthly pay cycles.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and state payroll tax regulations.
  • Address and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with HR to maintain accurate employee records.
  • Coordinate with Finance team for manual payments, as needed.
  • Generate and submit ROE’s for leave of absence or terminated employees.
  • Garnishment calculations & remittances.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Stay current with federal, provincial, and state payroll regulations.
  • Ensure filing of payroll tax forms and reports, including reconciliation of quarterly and year end reporting.
  • Generate regular and ad-hoc reports, as requested.
  • Filing, printing, and distribution of year end information slips for both Canada and US.
  • Work with HRIS for report(s) automation and system improvements.
  • Post payroll remittances, reconciliations, and reporting, as required.
  • Work with Finance regarding payroll accounting & reconciliations.
  • Assist in audits and special projects, when required.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes for efficiency.
  • Implement best practices and recommend process improvements, if necessary.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders in DIRTT to provide excellent service for employees.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of policies and procedures.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor payroll staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching as needed.
