Job role: Payroll Officer
Department: Finance
Location: Gateshead
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday (37.5 hours per week)
Office-based role with the potential for some remote work
Contract: Permanent
Reporting to: Finance Director

JOB SUMMARY

The Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees within the company. This role involves handling payroll calculations, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with UK tax and employment laws. The Payroll Officer will collaborate closely with HR and Finance departments to ensure that all employees are paid correctly and on time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • A relevant qualification in payroll, accounting, or finance (e.g., CIPP, AAT).
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good understanding of UK payroll legislation and HMRC regulations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience as a Payroll Officer or in a similar role.
  • Experience with payroll software (e.g., Sage Payroll, Xero, or similar).

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately process monthly payrolls for all employees.
  • Collect and collate payroll data.
  • Ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently and accurately.
  • Calculate wages, including overtime, bonuses, annual leave, pensions and other variable pay components.
  • Process statutory payments, including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SAP.
