Description:

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to join our team and assist with our HR, Accounting, and Finance departments. This role offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and development, as you will work closely with our experienced Payroll Manager and gain exposure to various payroll processes. You will assist in completing a full cycle of end-to-end US payroll processing in a timely manner. This position also provides sound advice and support to the company’s administrators, managers, and staff on payroll-related questions.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • APA certification or in progress is an asset
  • Experience with ADP WFN is required
  • 3-5 years of complete cycle, end-to-end Canadian and US payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of Canadian payroll is an asset
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, garnishments, and benefits distribution
  • Minimum two years of client service experience
  • Detail-oriented and robust analytical skills and multitasking abilities
  • Advanced Internet and MS Office Skills (Word/Excel) required
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions/processes
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work with a team

Responsibilities:

  • Checking timesheets for accuracy
  • Entering data into databases and spreadsheets
  • Handling direct deposit requests and data
  • Processing paper checks for distribution
  • Acquiring all necessary signatures to distribute payroll
  • Processing wage garnishments
  • Making adjustments in pay for raises, bonuses and commission
  • Updating payroll records by entering any changes to employee information or benefits such as job title changes, exemptions and saving deductions
  • Preparing reports that include summaries of earnings, tax deductions, leave, compassionate leave and non-taxable wages
  • Performing account balance and payroll reconciliations
  • Preparing financial reports for accounting and auditing purposes
  • Preparing periodic payroll reports for review by management
  • Calculating payroll liabilities by determining employee taxes, including federal and state income and social security tax, and calculating employer’s payments for social security, unemployment and worker’s compensation
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering any employee payroll queries
  • Maintaining all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures
  • Year-end reconciliation, processing and issuing of W-2 forms to employees
