Description:
Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) provides service to approximately 6,100 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 in 34 schools and is one of the largest employers in the Grande Prairie/Spirit River region. We invite applications for a: Full Time Payroll Specialist to work based out of the PWPSD Central Office in Grande Prairie, AB. As part of a team, the successful applicant will be primarily responsible for processing payroll in a timely and accurate manner for more than 1,200 employees, both union and non-union, in compliance with all applicable policies, collective agreements and legislation. The successful applicant must be a highly detail orientated, organized and energetic team player that can work well with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
Other qualifications and skills include: In-depth working knowledge of payroll, pensions, benefits, legislation and collective agreements Strong work ethic, approachable, reliable and a positive attitude Experience with Payroll/HRMS system, preferably with AtrieveERP/Powerschool Strong written/verbal communication skills, intermediate to advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Adapts well to change and displays a high level of confidentiality Proven analytical problem-solving skills, with an inquiring mindset ability to review and recommend process improvements Knowledge of human resource and accounting functional areas to understand the impact and interconnection with payroll Preference will be given to candidates with a diploma or degree in a related educational program with at least three years’ of payroll experience (equivalencies will be considered) Designation through the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) is preferred Other duties and responsibilities include: Benefit and pension administration, including all registrations, changes, terminations and submission of required data Monthly preparation and timely processing of all payroll related remittances, reconciliations and journal entries Accurate and timely maintenance and processing of all information related to new hires, personnel changes, terminations and retirements (including ROEs) Maintenance of both electronic and paper filing of all payroll related records Assist with the annual reporting requirements for Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB Annual Return), Canada Revenue Agency (T4s), and the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP Annual Return). Salary is commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $3,840.08 to $6,063.28 monthly. Employment to commence or as soon as possible based upon mutual agreement.
Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with occasional overtime.
