Job Description
We’re recruiting for a Payroll Subject Matter Expert to join our Retail functions.
The role’s objective is for the incumbent to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), assisting the Payroll Operations and Reconciliations Manager and setting a precedent within the team. They will offer technical payroll assistance to the customer payroll team, the broader Customer Service teams, their clients, and intermediaries, guaranteeing accurate and timely payment to our customers. This includes providing project support, demonstrating, quality assurance, and certifying relevant controls, in addition to managing complex cases.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting the payroll leadership team in modifying and enhancing the current payment processes and systems to meet evolving changes and new requirements. This involves defining the business change needs for the relevant systems, coordinating with project teams and vendors as needed, and carrying out suitable project work as necessary
  • Supporting the Payroll Systems manager and Operations Manager in user testing and monitoring the implementation of changes to the payment systems, briefing those changes to the payroll team, In Payment teams, and other business areas to ensure accuracy, the continuation of payments and customer service
  • Assist colleagues by disseminating knowledge, conducting training on procedures to uphold outstanding customer service and departmental quality standards, and offering specialized technical support to internal clients. Aid in resolving intricate payment issues by suggesting solutions and spearheading hyper care for complex edge cases requiring special focus as they are processed through the systems
  • Undertaking transaction monitoring to protect both the Legal & General and our customers from any financial loss
  • Authorise money out sign off and act as support/delegate for access and authorisation limit requests as appropriate
  • Consumer Duty- Ensure that the principles of Conduct Risk are embedded into your day-to-day operations to deliver good customer outcomes at all times. Ensure that all business processes and internal controls within your role are designed and performed in a way that delivers good customer outcomes and demonstrates effective management of Conduct Risk.
  • Process Improvement - identify areas of improvement and working within our processes and agile framework to take action to continually enhance the customer journey
  • Assume responsibilities of other Grade 4 and leadership roles in their absence, ensuring continuity of service and project progression.

Qualifications

Who we’re looking for:

  • Payroll and Pensions Industry Awareness is essential
  • Legal & General pension products serviced by the function, payroll processes, software & change management would be an advantage but not necessary
  • Experience of payroll regulatory standards/Risks
  • Prior experience of processing payroll
  • Exposure to payroll reconciliations, exceptions and variance analysis and resolution
  • Experience in a similar environment working on pension payrolls (10,000+ volume) and reconciliations of payrolls on a B2c and B2b basis
  • Ability to perform analysis and interpretation of financial and technical payroll data for reconciliation and query resolution
  • Good Excel skills is a big plus
