Description:
This prime position calls for an experienced Payroll Tax Accountant responsible for monitoring compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations at multiple locations. The role encompasses auditing payroll tax activities, resolving tax queries, and liaising with external payroll vendors to ensure punctual and accurate payroll processing. The role also covers managing state unemployment insurance (SUI) taxes, performing tax audits, and aiding in setting up payroll systems. Furthermore, the role extends to broader HR functions, such as compliance audits and accommodating payroll operations, and backing ongoing process enhancements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll tax management, including work with external payroll vendors and payroll/accounting software.
Solid expertise in federal and state payroll tax laws, with specific attention to California payroll tax regulations.
Experience in state and local tax registration and research.
Extensive knowledge of payroll tax compliance, audit procedures, and reporting standards.
Ability to interpret and apply intricate tax laws, rules, and regulations.
Outstanding analytical skills and precision, with an using a proactive problem-solving approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for handling inquiries and for effective departmental collaboration.
Capability to function effectively in a dynamic environment with fluctuating priorities and ambiguity.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is advantageous. Knowledge of payroll tax software such as ADP, Paylocity, or similar systems.

Responsibilities:
- Ensure payroll tax compliance, including federal, state, and local taxes across various locations, guaranteeing timely and proper filing and reporting.
- Carry out consistent audits of external payroll vendors to validate payroll tax data precision and to certify compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Handle state unemployment insurance (SUI) taxes along with other payroll-centric taxes, guaranteeing compliance with rules and prompt filings.
- Manage registration, closure, and resolution of state and local payroll tax accounts, and respond to queries from the tax authorities and additional stakeholders.
- Cooperate with external vendors to rectify and resolve payroll tax calculation and filing issues.
- Support audits related to workers’ compensation and reply to requisitions from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
- Prepare monthly reports on payroll tax activities and deliver supporting documentation for audits and internal audits.
- Develop and sustain methods that lessen errors and boost the efficiency of payroll tax processes.
- Serve as the expert in payroll tax-related concerns, offering guidance to HR and other business units.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Human Resources to aid departmental needs and add to operational improvements.
- Guarantee all practices conform to the organization’s core values and ethical standards.
