Description:
This is an opportunity to join an energetic and thriving research group, The Health Inequalities Policy Research Group (HIPR). Our vision is to improve health and reduce inequalities through the study of the determinants of health and wellbeing and the policies that impact them. You will support the development and implementation of our research programme through the analysis of large complex secondary datasets, using advanced quantitative methods to answer policy and health care relevant questions. You will work with practitioners and policy makers to use your research to improve public health and reduce inequalities. You will also be a part of the Civic Health Innovation Labs Data Action Research Team, a groundbreaking programme using whole population linked civic data to improve public health.
You should have a Postgraduate degree (MD or PhD) or equivalent research experience in a related area, e.g. applied public health research/ epidemiology/ economics/ geography/ data science/ sociology / applied statistics/ psychology. You should have experience in research related to health inequalities and the social determinants of health. You should have experience of applying quantitative methods to answer research questions, and of programming and processing methods to handle large datasets using appropriate statistical packages and tools.
There are four posts available with a fixed term of 24 months, and one post available with a fixed term of 18 months. Opportunities will be sought to continue funding beyond fixed term periods for successful candidates.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
Although the university has a hybrid working system, the expectation is that the successful applicant appointed to this role will be expected to work more than 50% on campus.
