Description:
NHS Kent and Medway is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join the board as the people and communities Champion. As an independent member of the board, you will bring a unique and valuable perspective ensuring that the voices of patients and local communities are represented and championed in decision making processes and that people’s experiences and views are taken into account at all times.
Governance and oversight: You will participate in Board meetings, contributing to the strategic governance and direction of the ICB.
Whilst this in an independent and therefore non-voting role, the people and communities champion will work with the Chair, non- executives, partner members, and executive directors as equal members of a unitary board. You will be expected to promote open and transparent decision-making that facilitates consensus aimed to deliver improved health and care outcomes for the total population of Kent and Medway.
Engagement: Chair a proactive and action focused people and communities advisory group – you will help establish this key advisory group to support widespread engagement with people who use services and their carers, local communities to ensure that insights and feedback is used within key decision making across the ICB and the ICS.
Engage with a wide range of stakeholders including patients, voluntary and community organisations.
Advocacy and representation: Act as a champion for people’s involvement - advocate for the needs and views of people who use services particularly those who are underserved or who may be less listened to within decision making.
Insights: provide insight based on personal experience and understand and articulate experience from across our user voice to influence the transformation and improvement of services.
Social justice and health equalities: Advocating diversity, health equality and social justice to close the gap on health inequalities and achieve the service changes needed to improve population health.
Promote the values of the NHS Constitution and model the behaviours embodied in Our People Promise to ensure a collaborative, inclusive and productive approach across the system.
Collaboration: work with other board members, members of the people and communities advisory group, patient and public representatives, executives and health and care professionals to support the Board’s objectives and priorities.
Evaluation and monitoring: contribute to the monitoring of performance particularly related to community and patient involvement and engagement.
Ensure we are compliant with its constitution and contractual obligations, holding other members of the ICB and the ICS to account through constructive, independent and respectful challenge.
Maintain oversight of the delivery of plans, ensuring that compliance with the expected standards of the regulatory bodies is maintained.
