Location: Kamloops, Head Office
Reports To: President & CEO
Salary: $100,000 to $125,000 depending on experience

Founded in 2017, Big Country Equipment has rapidly grown from a single-truck operation to a team of over 100 employees and a fleet of more than 30 fully equipped service trucks, available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Job Summary
The People and Talent Manager is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing HR initiatives to attract, develop, and retain a high-performing and engaged workforce. Reporting directly to the CEO and President, this role will build and lead all HR functions, including talent management, performance, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and training. With a hands-on approach, the People and Talent Manager ensures that HR strategies align with business goals, driving organizational health and effectiveness.
Key Accountabilities
- Develops and implements comprehensive HR policies, procedures, and programs that align with regulatory requirements, company needs, and best practices.
- Oversees all employee lifecycle programs, including job design, onboarding, offboarding, performance management, succession planning, and retention strategies.
- Leads training programs and initiatives.
- Serves as a trusted resource for managers and employees, providing coaching and guidance on employee relations, performance, recruitment, development, and disability management.
- Ensures full compliance with employment standards, privacy laws, and other regulatory requirements while minimizing legal risks through effective HR practices.
- Manages compensation and benefit frameworks, ensuring practices are consistently applied and collaborating with finance and payroll for reconciliations.
- Leads dispute resolution and employee relations issues, working collaboratively with the Health and Safety Manager on relevant issues.
- Develops and implements training programs that promote continuous employee growth and organizational effectiveness.
- Leads initiatives to enhance employee engagement, workplace culture, and diversity, promoting a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Provides timely and accurate HR metrics to inform decision-making, adjusting programs as needed to support business goals.
- Builds strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment with HR commitments and community partnerships.
Professional Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources management or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience, including 3+ years in employee relations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in HR roles within industries like mining, trades, or natural resources.
- CPHR designation or equivalent is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 BC driver’s license (or equivalent).
- A combination of education, skills, and experience may be considered.
Skills and Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of HR principles, policies, and best practices, including regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Ability to align HR initiatives with business objectives and drive continuous improvement across HR functions.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, capable of engaging with all levels of the organization, including senior leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships and delivering exceptional HR support across the organization.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, mentor, and motivate others, promoting accountability and performance.
- Knowledge and experience with HRIS systems; experience with Dayforce HRIS will be considered an asset.
- Critical thinker with the ability to identify risks, solve complex matters, and implement effective HR solutions.
- Skilled in managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, delivering results within set timelines.
- Knowledge and commitment to reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion, with an understanding of how these principles influence HR strategies and enable business success.
Working Conditions
- Standard business hours in an office setting, with occasional travel to site locations as needed.
- Flexibility in work hours may be required to support organizational needs.
