Description:

ABOUT US

SLAB was set up in 1987 to manage legal aid in Scotland. We are a non-departmental public body responsible to the Scottish Government. Our main purpose is to manage and continuously improve publicly funded legal assistance and to advise Scottish Ministers on its strategic development for the benefit of society.
If you wish to learn more about us and our direct services, please visit www.slab.org.uk.

Responsibilities:

WE ARE SEEKING AN EXPERIENCED PEOPLE CONSULTANT TO JOIN OUR PEOPLE & OD TEAM. IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL BE INTEGRAL IN SUPPORTING THE SCOTTISH LEGAL AID BOARD (SLAB) WORKFORCE WITH EXPERT ADVICE INCLUDING EMPLOYEE RELATIONS, PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT, AND HEALTH AND WELLBEING. EACH DAY WILL BRING NEW CHALLENGES, MAKING YOUR DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF PEOPLE PROCESSES AND EMPLOYMENT LAW ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS.

If you have strong case management experience, an understanding of best practices in HR, and a passion for making a difference, we encourage you to apply!

ABOUT THE ROLE

The People Consultant will support the People & OD team with case management. The role holder will be an integral member of the team with responsibility for ensuring SLAB’s workforce are supported, informed and empowered to make decisions through an advisory and supportive service. Each day will likely be different so an in-depth understanding of general people related processes and policies will be required to succeed.
The role involves advising and supporting staff and managers on all employee relations issues, including performance management, health and wellbeing, sickness and absence, conflict resolution, equality and diversity, dignity at work, investigations, and disciplinary and grievance procedures. You will work independently managing a diverse workload with competing priorities and should have good knowledge of employment legislation and the ability to deal with difficult situations.
This post is a fixed term contact (18 months) on a full time basis.
If you are applying for a full time position on a part time basis (less than 35 hours per week), please give details of the number of hours and pattern of part time work you would be interested in. Further details are supplied in our ‘General Information for Applicants’ document.

WE WILL ENSURE THAT DISCLOSURE OF DISABILITY STATUS WILL NOT NEGATIVELY IMPACT ANYONE’S APPLICATION. WE ARE COMMITTED TO GUARANTEEING AN INTERVIEW TO EVERY APPLICANT WHO INDICATES THEY HAVE A DISABILITY, IN TERMS OF THE EQUALITY ACT 2010, THAT MEETS THE MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR THE ROLE.

For more details about this role and a full list of essential criteria and required competencies, please see the ‘Additional Information’ section on the vacancy page of our recruitment portal.
