What’s the People & Culture team you say?
The People & Culture (P&C) team partners with the Senior Leadership Team and key internal stakeholders across ACON to foster a workforce that is positively connected, healthy and productive through its People and Culture services, programs and policies. The People & Culture team delivers legally compliant and effective support and services to ACON’s executive, managers and staff.
Our People & Culture team provides all essential employment life cycle services including recruitment, contracts, payroll and remuneration, onboarding, performance management, learning and development. In addition to core services, People & Culture works on other people development and workplace culture programs and initiatives.
Ok, so what’s the role?

The People & Culture Officer, as part of the P&C team, provides administrative and learning & development support to ensure professional client-oriented P&C services, including the provision of generalist advice in relation to ACON’s EA, salary packaging, pay and conditions, policies and processes to ACON staff & management. You will:

  • Conduct recruitment activities, including preparing Job Info Packs, listing vacancies on job boards, processing applications, preparing contracts and new starter forms, and conducting pre-work checks.
  • Maintain P&C registers (e.g.: WAFTO approvals, Vaccination records, Police Checks; WWC checks, First Aid qualifications, Policies, Contracts / Agreements) for all ACON employees and volunteers.
  • Prepare routine correspondence from templates, including employment contracts, volunteer agreements, salary increases, EVA’s, ECV’s, IFA’s, FWA’s and other employment and/or engagement paperwork.
  • Coordinate ACON Inductions for new employees and volunteers.
  • Liaise with external providers and partners to evaluate the applicability of courses, and review and assess the effectiveness of training techniques and materials with a focus on continual improvement.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality of all information pertaining to employees and volunteers, and across all P&C record keeping and data collection systems.
  • Maintain a professional standard of behaviour and contribute to building a positive team culture, information exchange and an effective team.
  • Produce training material as required and schedule and coordinate training activities to achieve established goals and objectives in line with the ACON Strategic Plan and other Business Plans.
  • Champion People and Culture system and process upgrades or changes, and support staff and managers through the transition to ensure smooth implementation.
  • Work with and support the People & Culture Lead and Manager, People & Culture on other projects.

  • A person with demonstrated experience in delivering high quality People and Culture services.
  • Someone who can demonstrate high-level attention to detail and organisational skills, including managing time, setting priorities, and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • A person highly focussed on superior customer service and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal clients.
  • Someone with the ability to interpret and apply administrative policies and processes, with an exceptional eye for detail.
  • A person with the ability to engage and liaise effectively with people at all levels, working independently and as part of a collegiate team.
  • Someone possessing excellent interpersonal, customer service and communications skills, both written, verbal and non-verbal.
  • A person with demonstrated strong skills in MS Office applications, particularly, Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Someone who shows an understanding of, and commitment to, ACON’s communities, particularly people living with HIV.
  • A person with evidence of Covid-19 Vaccination, in addition to any other vaccination required to perform the role.

It would also be desirable for you to have…

  • A qualification, or studying towards a qualification, in Human Resources.
  • Experience in administering Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).
  • An understanding or experience in learning and development systems and planning.

What’s the remuneration and working details?:

Salary:

  • Full-Time: $80,444 to $84,357 (Gross per-annum, PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading) – commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience. [For a 35 Hour Week]
  • Part-Time: $48,266 to $50,614 (Gross per-annum, PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading) – commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience. [For a 21 Hour Week]

Location:

  • ACON’s Gadigal / Sydney Office in Surry Hills, with flexible working options a possibility.

Hours:

  • Full-Time: Permanent (70 hours per fortnight) on an ongoing contract.
  • Part-Time: Permanent (42 hours per fortnight) on an ongoing contract.

We offer flexible working arrangements and a generous array of entitlements often above the National Employment Standards (NES) including:

  • Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
  • Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – access to a comprehensive counselling service free to employees.
