People & Culture Student
What You’ll Be Working On
Our internships and Co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. We’ll help you discover your strengths and development areas in a challenging, fun, and supportive work environment.
We are seeking a student to join us for a 4-month co-op position starting in January 2025. This position can be based out of Vancouver.
What You’ll Be Working On

People & Culture Support

  • Build and maintain positive working relationships, representing the P&C team, at all levels of the organization
  • Support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated through the delivery of P&C principles, practices and policies
  • Work with the P&C team members to prepare employee documentation including offer letters, promotional agreements, and termination and resignation documentation
  • Manage and organize exit interviews
  • Keep up to date with monthly Workday auditing reports, for example: Age 65 benefits report, onboarding 30 day survey report, 25 years of service reports, vacation tracking and reconciliation
  • Coach and train new hires and employees on Workday
  • Answer and direct benefit inquiries for salaried employees
  • Answer general employee questions, draft letters of employment and respond to requests for information
  • Exercise and demonstrate sound judgment, strict confidentiality, and adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in meetings; deliver presentations as required
  • Preparing slides and reports for presentations

People & Culture Programs and Process Support

  • Liaise with P&C and Payroll on new hire, promotion, termination, benefits and other team member changes
  • Support the development of various P&C initiatives and projects
  • Support employee orientation and onboarding (preparation of new hire packages, new hire setup (announcements, welcome email, IT set up and payroll documents), and facilitate new hire first day onboarding sessions
  • Follow up with leaders to ensure 30,60 and 90 onboarding meetings are held with new hires. Provide support resources and assistance where needed
  • Support termination and offboarding processes (collect and track hardware, communicate with IT)
  • Assume responsibility for the accurate, complete, and timely preparation of records, reports, and other documents
  • Support the annual service award process including tracking service award eligibility by quarter and communicating to service award recipients
  • Support learning and development initiatives including tracking training attendees, entering learning hours into Workday, and supporting the facilitation of in-person training
  • Perform other related duties as required

Who We Need On Our Team

  • You are currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree in business administration, or commerce, with a concentration in Human Resources or related discipline.
  • You will complete at least one more semester of education following your internship and possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Advanced technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Sharepoint knowledge an asset
  • Proven ability to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, including tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a sensitive nature
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Related previous work experience is an asset

  • Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude
  • Residency, or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Bird Construction or one of our wholly owned subsidiaries
  • If you are selected for a role in a safety-sensitive position, you will be required to successfully complete a Medical and/or Alcohol & Drug test
