Description:

The world we operate in is moving faster than ever before. Needs, expectations and behaviours are changing and at Nationwide we openly put the changing needs of our 15 million customers at the centre of every decision we make as a business. The People Function in Nationwide is at the heart of this, delivering initiatives and change that support achieving our purpose – Banking, but fairer and more rewarding, and for the good of society – and delivery of our Blueprint for a modern mutual.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR generalist to join our People Partnering and Change Consultancy team as a People Partner. This role will contribute directly to transforming our workforce at Nationwide and is on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. The role will focus on seamlessly delivering change for our people, driving out a strong colleague experience and engagement.
We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best. The working hours (per week) for this role can be between 28 and 35.
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you’ll be located at our nearest regional hub. There will be a need to regularly connect with colleagues for collaboration events in one of our office sites. This is anticipated to be on a monthly basis minimum in London or Swindon. If your application is successful, your hiring manager will provide further details on how this works. You can also find out more about our approach to hybrid working here.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.

ABOUT YOU

We’re interested in people who enjoy managing multiple competing priorities working in a fast-paced change environment, so if that’s you then we would like to hear from you.

As a minimum requirement you’ll:

  • Have an established track record of working in HR in medium/large commercial organisations; supporting large scale organisational design, as well as managing and delivering people change initiatives at pace, within a unionised environment.
  • An ability to manage and own multiple and competing priorities, with proven experience in experimentation and taking ideas/concepts through to delivery.
  • Be confident engaging with and experience of coaching and advising senior stakeholders, and possess strong negotiation and influencing capabilities to drive action.
  • Have proven experience of understanding, analysing and interpreting insight and complex data and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Proven successful delivery of managing people change activities including TUPE, organisational design, strategic workforce planning and acquisitions.
  • Have a knowledge gained through experience, in either a HR partnering/change role or in a role with relevant transferrable skills and experience, including working with and alongside HR Centres of Excellence, and evidence of developing self through understanding of current and emerging HR practices and legislation.

Our Customer First behaviours are all about putting customers and members at the heart of how we work together. You can strengthen your application by showing the behaviours that resonate with you, and how you might have already demonstrated these.

  • Say it straight - This is about being honest and direct with good intent and saying what needs to be said in the room. It’s also about being clear, precise, and using language that we and, importantly, our customers and members can understand.
  • Push for better - This is about aiming high and constantly looking for better in how we work together and serve our customers and members.
  • Get it done - This is about prioritising what will have the greatest impact, being decisive and taking accountability for delivering on the end-to-end outcome.

We know applying for jobs can sometimes feel like you’re sending an application into a black hole. We review each application individually. So, it’s a good idea to call out your most relevant experience on your application to give yourself the best chance.

Responsibilities:

People Partners work a little differently at Nationwide. You won’t be aligned to a specific business leader or area and will instead work as part of a team or independently to deliver prioritised business and strategic People change activity and interventions that enable Nationwide’s strategy.
You will be responsible for scoping activity, influencing, and managing stakeholders, ensuring that activities are aligned to our strategic priorities and ultimately supporting design and shaping, owning and executing against a clear delivery plan. You will be trusted to apply your People experience and knowledge to deliver on clearly defined outcomes.
You will work alongside People Centres of Excellence to support the evolving people narrative and embedding activities across the business; you could find yourself as part of a team delivering and embedding a new way of managing performance across our organisation, or helping the business solve a commercial issue related to culture and engagement, supporting strategic workforce planning, a shift in ways of working or capabilities or a large scale restructure.
Whatever you end up working on there will be variety and an opportunity to work for and learn from different members of the team, often led by our Senior People Partners who lead on a portfolio of work.
