JOB DESCRIPTION

We have a range of exciting leadership roles in our People and Business Services (PBS) directorate; responsible for delivering an ambitious programme of work that ultimately ensures the ONS has the right skills in the right place at the right time to deliver our priority outcomes. These roles will work in partnership with our senior leaders to design and deliver people interventions in areas such as resourcing, reward, strategic workforce planning, employee experience, skills development and policy.
These roles will also be key members of the extended senior leadership team, driving the strategic intent of our ambitious people plan for the organisation, embracing innovative people practices and bringing clear direction, pace and drive to the teams they will be leading.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration, as well as leading on the publication of vital statistics on life events and health.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a campaign for a number of senior positions within the PBS directorate across a range of HR disciplines. Examples of key responsibilities across these roles may include:

  • Leading, developing and implementing people policies, projects and interventions in line with organisational goals and legal requirements.
  • Leading and managing teams of HR professionals, providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
  • Strategic skills development linked to workforce plans to ensure the organisation has the right skills and capabilities to deliver its priority outcomes.
  • Partnering with senior leaders and managers to align local people plans and approaches with wider priorities and business objectives.
  • Leading an evidence-based approach to our people plan, ensuring we have access to high quality employee data and analytics with clear metrics to assess the effectiveness of our people practices.
  • Leading on large programmes of work in a number of HR disciplines ensuring outcomes are clearly aligned with business need.
  • Collaborating with senior leadership colleagues to drive positive leadership practices, delivering a small number of high-impact, centrally run initiatives.
