Sojourn House provides Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing services to newly arrived refugees coming from all parts of the world. We provide a safe place and an inclusive environment to people who have had the refugee experience. We are dedicated to providing the best possible settlement services and programs that help residents transition and integrate into the community. With decades of experience and being one of the first refugee housing facilities in Toronto, we take pride in being a leading organization in refugee care.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As the People Services Associate, you will support the delivery of HR Service responsibilities to the management team, employees and volunteers of Sojourn House using an anti-oppression framework lens and a thorough understanding of relevant legislation.
You will report to the Interim Manager, People Services and Culture and provide exceptional customer service to our staff in the areas of recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and performance management. Your ability to identify talent within a niche market, partnered by your technical skills in HRIS and applicant tracking systems will help Sojourn House deliver on our mission to provide a safe place and an inclusive environment for refugees to thrive in Canada.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Coordinates the recruitment cycle: sourcing candidates, screening, interviews, reference checks, extending verbal offers of employment and onboarding
  • Processes new-hire paperwork, including police reference checks and ensure mandatory pre-requisites for employment is provided (i.e. academic qualifications, WES transcript, First Aid + CPR certifications etc.)
  • Support the administration and maintenance of the organization’s HRIS, Bamboo HR, and digital and hard copy employee files
  • Support the administration of engagement surveys for statistical tracking for development of employee programs
  • Maintains and updates departmental standard operating procedures as required
  • Supports planning and coordination of special events, team building exercises, and employee service award and recognition programs as directed
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of staff retention trends/strategies
  • Supports administration of employee leaves including but not limited to pregnancy or parental leaves and WSIB claims
  • Support the development and implementation of HR special projects
  • Supports Managers with the annual performance review process
  • Produce regular and ad hoc reports as needed including reviewing HR metrics, contributing to analysis and insights gathering and reporting of topics ranging from attendance to anonymized findings from exit interviews
  • Supports delivery of the Volunteer Management Program
  • Support the Interim Manager, People Services and Culture in delivering departmental objectives in alignment with the organizational strategic plan
