The Role & Key Responsibilities
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Performance Insight Analyst post on a permanent contract working within Sussex Corporate Development Department.
Working within a small team, we are seeking individuals with a high level of technical experience, to produce meaningful and insightful reports and management information dashboards using Microsoft Power BI and other analytical/data visualisation tools.
You will need to be able to work to strict deadlines, to collate, analyse, interpret and present data on all aspects of police performance. You will act as the force analytical lead for one or more designated performance areas and be accountable for the accurate representation of data on these subject areas.
You will also, as required, work with external partners, such as the Office of the Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner (OSPCC) and Local Authorities to provide statistics, analysis, and reports. As well as work with His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS), National Police Chief’s Council (NPCC) and Home Office analysts to meet statutory reporting requirements.

Typical day to day activity and responsibilities will include:

  • Answering Freedom of Information (FOI) requests.
  • Converting existing reports from Business Objects into Power BI Dashboards or into Power BI paginated reports.
  • Meet statutory reporting obligations by reporting statistical information to the Home Office, HMICFRS and NPCC.
  • Meet with stakeholders to identify performance reporting requirements and designing products able to providing that information.
  • Answer requests for information from all levels of policing including Chief Officers or the OSPCC.
  • Attend meetings and present performance information, answer questions and provide advice.
  • Produce detailed analytical reports to the Senior Management Team presenting independent scrutiny, giving specific advice and recommendations.
  • Maintain records of work completed, including documenting measures within a data dictionary.
  • Complete independent research and horizon scanning staying up to date on best practice and developments relevant to performance.
  • Complete mandatory training relevant to your role or to policing.

Skills & Experience

  • You will be educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant experience working to this level.
  • You will have well developed computer skills, including prior experience of using Microsoft 365 products, including Word and PowerPoint, with advanced Excel skills being able to analyse large datasets using Pivot tables, Excel formulas or Power Query and M code.
  • You will need prior experience, knowledge or training in business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Tableau, QlikView/Qlik Sense, SAP Analytics etc. Or other relevant skills relating to the management and interpretation of large datasets.
  • You will have experience in research, interpretation and analysis of complex management and performance information with the ability to analyse large quantities of data by the application of accepted statistical techniques.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to contribute and present in meetings and within written reports, to key stakeholders, senior leaders and strategic level Boards.
  • You will need to have a have a high level of self-management, motivation, drive and determination, to be able to work independently to strict deadlines and without direct supervision.
