Summary:
Full-time (40 hrs/wk) - Bachelor’s from Perfusion program, AR Perfusionist license & ABCP certification required
Operates extra-corporeal perfusion (CPB) equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support the patient’s cardio-pulmonary functions. By monitoring necessary physiologic parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass, the perfusionist may be responsible for administration, on prescription, of blood products, anesthetic agents or drugs through the extracorporeal circuit.

  • Full-time (40 hrs/wk) - variable schedule with call rotation
  • Bachelor’s from Perfusion program, AR Perfusionist license & ABCP certification required
  • Perfusionist team works with 3 surgeons, is responsible for cell savers, and have no ECMO responsibilities

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree - Graduate of an accredited Perfusion school/Certified with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion

Description
1. Conducts patient and procedural assessment. Reviews the patient medical history and current medical data prior to implementing CPB.
2. Based on assessment, chooses appropriate equipment for construction of perfusion circuit.
3. Collaborates with surgical team with regard to optimal patient care and anticipated needs.
4. Conducts extracorporeal perfusion safely exhibiting ability to integrate and responds to a variety of physiologic parameters and implements interventions appropriate to emergency situations.
5. Assures a safe environment for conducting CPB through verification of proper function of equipment and notifies appropriate person should intervention be required.
6. Completes required documentation related to CPB.
7. Appraises patient’s response to hemodilution hypothermia, anticoagulation, acid-base balance and institutes remedial therapy when needed.
8. Responds appropriately to needs of surgeon to implement efficient surgical procedure.
9. Communicates with surgical team any deviations from anticipated occurrences and responds appropriately.
10. Consults with other healthcare team members where expertise in extracorporeal circulation is needed.
