Description:

An extraordinary time for specialist perinatal mental health services across the UK following huge progress on the delivery of the NHS Long Term plan to broaden interventions and expand access for new and expectant mums, women and birthing parents. The perinatal period includes from conception up to 1year following the birth of the baby, it’s a critical time for prevention and treatment for women at risk of serious mental ill health, providing a unique opportunity for intervention and change, improving outcomes for mums, their families and ultimately society.
The Essex Perinatal Mental Health Service has successfully established a new specialist service in the community over the last 7 years as is one of the largest services in the country with a rich mix of disciplines and interventions and collaborating with multiple system partners. We have 5 hubs across Essex and provide specialist assessment, intervention for women at risk of moderate to serious mental illness or complex disorders. We have 2 posts available, and the successful candidates will be North or South Essex based and providing clinical and managerial leadership for the team.
We significantly invest in our colleagues to develop expertise providing specialist training packages and development opportunities in line with emerging evidence and standards for parental mental illness. Successful candidates will be clinicians with sound knowledge and experience in mental health care and in managing clinical services.
The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Community Perinatal Mental Health Services across the Essex locality. They will provide line management for clinical Team Leaders on all service components the post holder is responsible for.
To work with Senior Managers, Local Authorities, Generic Mental Health Teams, Acute Hospitals, Maternity Services, CCGs, specialist teams, voluntary agencies and other key partners to lead the delivery of excellent Community Perinatal Mental Health Services within the Trust.
To identify the mental health needs of the locality in accordance with the Mental Health Policy Implementation Guidelines and Local Mental Health Strategy.
To ensure that the Community Perinatal Mental Health Services are delivered to a high standard and embrace new ways of working, reflecting commissioning intentions in order to expand the provision of the perinatal mental health care across the county.
To work collaboratively and in partnership with partners within the specialist mental health services, Social Services and the voluntary sector to ensure services provided are co-ordinated and focused on positive patient outcomes for pre-natal and post-partum mothers.

1. To ensure the continuity of delivery of a specialist community outreach and in patient services for those Mothers with serious mental health illnesses and problems in both pregnancy and post-natally across an urban and rural geography.
2. To lead the service and promote a culture based on principles of recovery , co-production, choice and personalised care, in which the Mothers and Key supports where agreed can expect to be active in decision-making about their care and treatment.
3. To work in an effective partnership with Consultant Psychiatrist, clinical Psychologist in the service thus providing a strong multi-disciplinary leadership model.
4. To promote an understanding amongst the workforce of its role in seeing our business succeed and thrive, in the context of a commercial and competitive environment.
5. To deploy the capacity of the service in order to ensure that demand in met by the most appropriately skilled practitioners, and to ensure that service users ‘flow’ through pathways of care according to need. This includes being accountable for delivery of a proactive caseload on delivery of outcomes.
6. To ensure the service works in line with agreed pathways, National and Trust policies and guidelines, and is focused on delivery of outcomes.
7. To co-ordinate the management of the operational team, ensuring effective training, ongoing professional development and professional supervision is maintained for all staf
