*QUALIFICATIONS:*

  • Any combination equivalent to the experience and education that could likely provide the
    required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
    knowledge and abilities would be equivalent to graduation from high school and previous

experience or coursework in building inspection, construction technology, or a related field.

  • ICC Permit Technician certification or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and construction practices.
  • Experience in customer service and administrative support.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to review technical documents accurately.
  • Proficiency in using computer software applications for permit tracking, data entry, record keeping, and correspondence.

Responsibilities:

  • Permit application processing by receiving, reviewing, verifying completeness and accuracy of building permit applications and associated documents in accordance with established procedures and building codes.
  • Ensuring code compliance by ensuring that proposed construction projects comply with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and other relevant standards.
  • Provide guidance and general interpretation of building codes to applicants and stakeholders.
  • Perform Building Inspection coordination and scheduling at various stages of construction projects.
  • Provide customer service to assist customers (including contractors, architects, and homeowners) on-site (in person), or virtually by computer, phone and email, regarding permit requirements, application status, and code inquiries.
  • Represent the department and interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders, fostering positive and cooperative working relationships and promoting a culture of compliance and safety.
  • Provide information and guidance on the permit process and necessary documentation.
  • Issue permits.
  • Accurately calculate and collect permit fees.
  • Record keeping while maintaining accurate records of permits issued, inspections conducted, and fees collected.
  • Generate reports and correspondence related to permit applications and inspections.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to internal staff and external stakeholders on matters related to building codes, permit requirements, and inspection procedures.
  • Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and officials involved in the permitting and inspection process.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to stay updated on changes in building codes and regulations.
  • Perform assigned duties within the supported agency’s guidance, culture, and approach.
  • Other duties as assigned.
