Description:
The Personal Support Worker functions as a nursing team member assisting the patients in the Hospital to meet their basic physical, social, and emotional needs, along with any other duties that may be required within the scope of the classification. Shift rotations are subject to change. The successful candidate will be required to do patient transports.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
o Successful completion of the Personal Support Worker Program or equivalent education as a RN student completion of year 2 or greater, RPN student completion of term 2 or greater
o Current CPR
o One year experience working as a Health Care Aide or Personal Support Worker in a healthcare setting
o Knowledge and experience using proper body mechanics for a one-person transport by wheelchair or stretcher
o Demonstrated understanding of proper body mechanics when pushing, pulling, lifting and transferring patients
o Working knowledge of stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, etc.
o Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and other members of the healthcare team
o Evidence of effective customer service, organizational, interpersonal, judgment and decision-making skills
o Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision
o Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
o Proficiency in both official languages (English & French) will be considered an asset
o Consistent and regular attendance required
