Description:
The OFR seeks a PhD economist researcher with expertise in stablecoins, their diverse applications, and the major risks and vulnerabilities they contribute to financial stability. The successful candidate will deeply understand computer science through blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The research conducted for this role will be done alongside computer scientists and legal experts at the OFR who support data collection strategies, transmission channels for systemic risk, and how financial innovation through digital assets can impact the established financial system. Their research will also support the OFR Annual Report, OFR-related research, and participation in an internal digital asset working group. The researcher will also contribute to the planning and developing conference(s) focused on financial stability. The candidate will work closely with other researchers through these engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expertise in areas related to research and analysis on digital assets, with a specific focus on stablecoins and the risks and vulnerabilities they contribute to financial stability.
- Evaluate, interpret, and assess the impact of market trends, financial systems, and programs. The changing economic climate ensures that the OFR is provided with accurate and well-understood data and information.
- Assist the OFR in analyzing and assessing the potential impact of existing or proposed policies on the financial system. Make recommendations to OFR concerning existing or proposed policy issues.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on various topics related to systemic risk in their expertise.
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in Economics.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct, and manage research projects.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present research findings effectively.
- Experience in providing expert feedback and recommendations to improve the quality of research.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must have, or be able to obtain and maintain, a Department of the Treasury security clearance based on a background investigation as authorized to work in the US.
