JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacist will lead pharmacy operations by ensuring accurate dispensing of medications, managing pharmacy staff, and providing comprehensive pharmaceutical care. This role is essential for maintaining high standards of patient safety and satisfaction.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from an accredited institution.
- Proficient in using pharmacy management software and technology.
- Minimum of two years post-NYSC experience in a hospital setting.
- Valid license to practice as a pharmacist in Nigeria.
- Strong knowledge of pharmacotherapy, drug interactions, and pharmacy law.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient-centered care.
- Proficient in using pharmacy management software and technology.
Responsibilities:
- Assess prescriptions for appropriateness, accuracy, and potential drug interactions.
- Oversee the preparation and dispensing of medications, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Provide thorough counseling to patients regarding their medications, including usage, side effects, and interactions.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to optimize medication regimens for patients with complex health conditions.
- Provide guidance and training to pharmacy technicians and assistants to ensure efficient pharmacy operations.
- Assess the performance of pharmacy staff and provide constructive feedback for professional development.
- Manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during all shifts.
- Monitor medication stock levels, conduct regular audits, and coordinate with suppliers for timely replenishment.
- Ensure that all medications are stored safely according to regulations and best practices.
- Implement protocols for the disposal of expired or unused medications.
- Ensure compliance with local pharmacy laws, hospital policies, and safety protocols.
- Regularly review pharmacy processes to ensure adherence to established standards.
- Engage in continuous education regarding new medications, technologies, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive care plans for patients.
- Attend meetings to discuss patient care strategies and medication management.
- Participate in community outreach initiatives aimed at educating the public about health issues, medication safety, and preventive care measures.
- Organize health screenings or educational events within the community.
- Conduct thorough reviews of patients’ medication histories during admissions, transfers, and discharges to prevent medication errors.
- Monitor patient responses to medications, adjusting dosages as necessary based on clinical guidelines and laboratory results.
- Actively engage in ward rounds with healthcare teams to provide insights on medication therapy and contribute to patient care decisions.
- Assist patients with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) by providing education on medication adherence and lifestyle modifications.
- Offer health screenings (e.g., blood pressure, cholesterol) and administer vaccinations as part of preventive healthcare initiatives.
- Develop and implement educational programs for patients regarding disease prevention, medication safety, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Establish a system for reporting medication errors or adverse drug reactions to improve safety protocols within the hospital.
- Ensure that clinical pharmacy services align with national and international guidelines for best practices in medication management.
- Participate in clinical research studies and audits to assess the effectiveness of pharmaceutical care services provided in the hospital.
- Assist in managing the pharmacy budget by monitoring expenditures on medications and supplies to optimize resource allocation.
- Contribute to the development of pharmacy policies and procedures that promote safe medication use and compliance with regulatory standards.
