Description:
- Medication Dispensing and Counseling
- Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications accurately while adhering to Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations.
- Counsel patients on medication usage, potential side effects, and interactions, ensuring they understand the treatment plan.
- Provide personalized advice for chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and asthma, and offer lifestyle recommendations to optimize health.
- Medication Safety and Quality Assurance
- Ensure that all medications are stored properly according to DHA standards.
- Monitor expiration dates and handle the disposal of expired or unused medications in compliance with local regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, controlled substances, and inventory.
- Clinical Support and Collaboration
- Work with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes, especially for complex cases or patients on multiple medications.
- Participate in medication therapy management (MTM) programs to review patients’ medications, adjust dosages, and avoid drug interactions.
- Provide therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) for specific medications when necessary.
- Regulatory Compliance and Reporting
- Comply with DHA guidelines, standards, and reporting requirements.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in pharmaceutical laws, including controlled substances, over-the-counter regulations, and patient confidentiality protocols.
- Report adverse drug reactions and participate in pharmacovigilance programs to contribute to medication safety.
- Inventory Management and Stock Control
- Order, receive, and manage the stock of medications, ensuring that commonly prescribed medications are always available.
- Use inventory management software to track usage trends and prevent stockouts.
- Perform routine audits and manage the financial aspects of inventory, such as minimizing wastage and preventing losses.
- Patient Education and Public Health Initiatives
- Conduct awareness campaigns on medication safety, preventive care, and disease management (e.g., vaccination, smoking cessation).
- Educate patients and the public about non-prescription products like supplements, herbal remedies, and vitamins.
- Support initiatives for promoting healthy lifestyles in line with UAE public health goals.
- Continuous Learning and Professional Development
- Engage in continuous education to stay current with new medications, treatments, and best practices.
- Attend workshops, seminars, and courses as mandated by the DHA or relevant licensing bodies.
- Train and supervise pharmacy assistants, interns, and junior pharmacists to ensure high standards of practice.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree.
- DHA licensure as a pharmacist in Dubai.
- Strong communication and counseling skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management and pharmacy software.
- Knowledge of integrative and complementary therapies is a plus, given the growing interest in holistic healthcare in Dubai.
