Description:
We currently have a full-time position for an enthusiastic, conscientious and hardworking person to join our friendly pharmacy department in the distribution and stores area.
Duties will include ward visits as part of our topping-up service, assembling stock drug orders, answering telephone calls for stock medicine orders, operating automated systems and assisting in Pharmacy Stores.
Previous pharmacy experience is desirable. Whilst no pharmacy qualification is required candidates must be prepared to work towards an accredited Pharmacy Services qualification relating to stock management, which will involve being observed and assessed. Full training will be given.

The pharmacy department has approximately 240 staff. The 2 sites provide dispensary services to inpatients & outpatients, medicines information, procurement services and full clinical service to wards; the onsite aseptic and manufacturing services are centralised at CGH.
Pharmacy is at the forefront of many exciting projects including an award-winning service provided by pharmacist prescribers in orthopaedic pre-admission clinic.
Within the department are specialist clinical teams; the Specialist Mental Health Pharmacy facilitates delivery of Specialist services for Mental Health & Learning Disabilities. The cancer services team provide a pharmacy service at both sites for oncology & haematology and satellite pharmacy.
We are a friendly, inclusive department who wish to nurture and develop our staff at all grades, from a mentoring programme for band 6 pharmacists to the development of pharmacist prescribers
Ward Top-up service
- Regular visits to wards or clinics to check stock levels & re-order medicines where necessary according to a set stock list, checking expiry dates and communicating with ward staff.
- Return medicines no longer required to Pharmacy.
Distribution
- Utilise automated systems to distribute medicines to hospital departments and outside customers
- Accurately pick stock medicines and package ready for onward transport.
Pharmacy Stores
- Unpack goods in the pharmacy stores, check received stock against delivery note and enter onto the Pharmacy computer or place into automatic dispensing systems.
- Put stock away in the correct location, restock shelves in distribution area.
