QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred College graduate
  • Preferred Five or more years inventory control and/or purchasing experience, strong analytical skills, experience as a Pharmacy Technician,
  • Able to perform basic Pharmacy related mathematical calculations,
  • Basic knowledge in use of Pharmacy drug ordering systems and information sources,
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and related products, nomenclature, sources of
  • supply, the pharmaceutical industry, regulations pertaining to acquisition, storage and distribution of drugs and related products,
  • Must be able to communicate in English,

Responsibilities:

  • Preparedness and utility and equipment management policies and procedures
  • Helps maintain a safe and clean patient and work environment
  • Utilizes advanced planning, organizational skills, independent judgment, and critical thinking, setting and quickly resetting priorities, in anticipation of Pharmacy department and Medical Center s pharmaceutical needs,
  • Requisitions and procures all medication, pharmaceutical materials, and supplies required for the function of the medical center,
  • Confers with departmental representative to determine specific needs, taking into account budget allocations, market conditions and availability
  • Collaborates with Director of Pharmacy for the review of new contracts, analyzing information and comparison research based on product utilization, quality and cost,
  • Generates purchase orders based on inventory needs and analysis of computerized utilization data, Is authorized to utilize the Lawson purchasing system to create electronic purchase orders and assign charge codes
  • Corrects any discrepancies noted in charges, with special regard to contract price,
  • Prioritizes distribution of inventory and special orders to appropriate departments,
  • Coordinates the training of Pharmacy staff on the purchase and receipt of inventory functions,
  • Maintains all purchase orders in an easily retrievable manner,
  • Responsible for assigning new charge master numbers, entering new products into the computer database, and notifying other departments and appropriate staff of formulary additions or changes
  • Services as a resource consultant maintaining and updating the Pharmacy charge master in compliance with federal regulations, ensuring appropriate coding and adequate reimbursement
  • Acts as the Pharmacy liaison to finance and information systems on billing, coding and pricing of pharmaceuticals
  • Coordinates the proper disposal and destruction of pharmaceutical waste in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency ,state, and federal regulation,
  • Manages the return goods process to manufacturers and wholesalers for credit of expired inventory
  • Implements the policy and procedures regarding drug recalls in a timely manner
  • Completes the required documentation detaining the disposition of such inventory
  • Analyzes and makes independent decisions in the selection process of alternated sources when backorders or out of stock situations occur,
  • Informs the director of Pharmacy of any out of stock situations that merit attention to insure continued patient care
  • Maintains records and ensures returns or reimbursement of drugs borrowed in emergency situations
  • Arranges for backorder reimbursement from companies unable to supply contract items,
  • Exhibits expertise in obtaining other specialized inventory,
