JOB OVERVIEW:

The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in all aspects of pharmacy practice and performs any duties required to provide and ensure good patient care and safety as requested. Follows workflow as appropriate,

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • NJ Pharm Tech license

Preferred:

  • PTCB Certification

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Day Shift
  • Part-Time
  • 16 hours per week

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of medication distribution
  • Refills unit-dose medication bins and delivers contents to nursing units
  • Collects and processes medication orders prior to distribution
  • Delivers prepared medication to nursing units, as assigned
  • Performs necessary tasks related to patient transfer and discharge; record-keeping and transfer of medications
  • Delivery of controlled substances to all hospital areas
  • Maintenance of all automatic dispensing machines
  • Check for and removes expired medications from stock
  • Restocks code carts
  • Prepares and labels outpatient prescriptions
  • Prepares and labels extemporaneously compounded non-sterile pharmaceuticals
  • Sterile IV Admixture Service
  • Sterile and non-sterile product preparation
  • Performs required calculations for all aspects of medication dispensing and compounding
  • Using aseptic technique, prepares and labels all sterile products
  • Maintains the integrity of laminar air flow hoods by cleaning and following proper procedures
  • Delivers intravenous solutions to nursing units
  • Monitors IV schedules and unused IV solutions on select nursing units to increase efficiency and avoid waste
  • Using aseptic techniques and appropriate safety systems, prepares and labels chemotherapy. This function requires appropriate certification of a formal program
  • Performs quality assurance tests as assigned
  • Assists with orientation and training of new staff
  • Maintains competency required for current job
  • Completes all competency/skills assessment requirements
  • Attends staff meetings
  • Participates in orientation, education and training programs
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule
