You will be part of the pharmacy clinical trials & aseptic team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation trust supporting the expert pharmaceutical technical expertise in the delivery of clinical trials and assisting in the setting up logistics for clinical trials across a wide range of clinical specialities. As a specialist role the post holder will develop and promote good manufacturing practice (GMP) and good clinical practice (GCP) to ensure the safety of the medicinal product, patient, and staff.
We are looking for a forward thinking, self-motivated pharmacy technician and welcome applications from newly qualified pre-registration trainees or colleagues looking to develop experience in clinical trials and research delivery.
The service supports partners at Lancashire and South Cumbria, community Mental health Trust. Lancashire Teaching Hospital hosts the Lancashire Clinical Research Facility (LCRF) and works with academic partners at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) and Lancaster University.

As a new hybrid role, you will cover rotations in clinical trials and aseptics. Following a thorough induction period, you will work closely with the pharmacy clinical trials manager and senior pharmacy technicians in clinical trials & aseptics. We are looking for a candidate to help support develop the technical expertise and skill mix to set-up more complex advanced therapy trials at the trust. You will support pharmaceutical technical oversight for the active clinical trials (CT) portfolio and coordinate the workflow for the early phase portfolio and bespoke clinical trial which requires up to date knowledge of aseptics.
The department provides a seven-day service, and the successful candidate may be required to work weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis. You may also be required to work at both sites of the Trust – Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.
Working hours are between 8:00am and 5:30pm Monday to Friday on rotation with each shift being 7.5 hours and 30-minute lunch break. As a Trust, we support agile and flexible working based on the needs of the service. You’ll have an opportunity to discuss this at interview.

Responsibilities:

Achieving and maintaining in-house competencies for the preparation of medicines. Promoting Good Manufacturing Practice throughout the working area, following written procedures and COSHH guidelines to ensure safety of the medicinal product, patient, and staff.
To prioritise and organise daily workload to ensure the requirements of the service and patients are met in full and organise workflow in the designated area (aseptic, manufacturing, or clinical trials).
Concentration will be required for periods of one to two hours sessionally to prepare products and documents. Carry out self and in –process checks throughout the production process.
The post holder must contribute to preparing products to meet the production plan.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring adverse occurrences are recorded and reported via the Trust incident reporting system in a timely manner.
