Description:
To work within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.
To work as part of a team and also work independently and using own initiative to deal with problems, enquiries and urgent requests referring to the senior pharmacy technician or a pharmacist if necessary.
To use professional judgement to make appropriate decisions based on evaluating facts and options e.g. supply problems with urgent items.
To act as an accredited checking Pharmacy Technician undertaking the final check and release of prescriptions dispensed by other pharmacy staff, including pharmacy graduates and qualified pharmacists.
To dispense and issue prescriptions, providing advice and information on medicines to patients, carers and nursing staff.
To undertake other dispensary duties including preparing specialist pharmacy products.

To support the pharmacy logistics service in providing safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.
To participate in pharmacy services on weekend/public holiday rotas.
To participate in the training and supervision of pharmacy assistants, student Pharmacy Technicians, pre-registration pharmacists and pharmacy students.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

To undertake other dispensary duties including preparing specialist pharmacy products.
To participate in the induction and supervision of new pharmacy staff.
Discuss medication with patients and carers, obtain accurate drug histories and appropriately liaise with the clinical pharmacist about pharmaceutical care issues.
Communicate information to patients regarding prescriptions (e.g., advice on supply issues) and counsel patients on the correct and safe use of their medication, overcoming communication difficulties (e.g. elderly, confused or hard of hearing.
