Dispensary To dispense in-patient and out-patient prescriptions and discharge summaries in accordance with departmental guidelines. To resolve pharmaceutical issues around patient care and to refer to a dispensary pharmacist or ward pharmacist as appropriate. To counsel patients on the correct use of their medicines. To assist with the daily stock checks and specified items.
To ensure goods are stored under the appropriate conditions and stocks are rotated. To evaluate returned pharmaceuticals from wards and departments for suitability to re-issue in line with departmental guidelines. To ensure that adequate levels of consumable items used in the course of dispensing are available and to top-up these items as necessary. To respond appropriately to incoming telephone calls, patients, customers, visitors and other hospital staff attending the pharmacy.
To be responsible for tidiness of workplace areas. To participate in local rota arrangements for covering late clinics and weekend and Bank Holiday duties. To undertake any other appropriate duties as may be requested by your manager. When accredited, to develop and participate in medicines reconciliation and Final Accuracy checking activities.
